Eastwood, antes de 11 de setembro de 1885, não assiste ao nascimento de nenhum escritor ou filósofo ou qualquer estudioso de literatura tão grande como D.H. Lawrence. O filho de dois casais desarmónicos, John Arthur Lawrence e Lydia Beardsall. A desarmonia do casal Lawrence deveu-se ao facto de ambos pertencerem a duas classes diferentes. John Arthur Lawrence pertence à classe operária que escapa à 'educação' obrigatória do Estado. Toda a sua vida começa e acaba fisicamente, feita de trabalho árduo na mina de carvão, bebendo e, por vezes, dando longos passeios com os seus companheiros. Lydia Beardsall era uma mulher educada e bonita, mais tarde tornou-se professora assistente, interessava-se por ler e escrever poesia e discutia com alguns homens cultos sobre religião, filosofia ou política. Por isso, era ela a razão da educação dos seus filhos. Apesar das lutas e disputas internas regulares, tiveram cinco filhos: George Arthur, William Ernest, Emily, David Herbert e Ada. Apesar da sua saúde frágil em criança, ele adora explorar. Mesmo quando era muito pequeno, tornou-se um escritor muito conhecido.
