A prescindere dal ruolo svolto dalla comunità internazionale nella risoluzione dei conflitti, l’importanza attribuita alle questioni della povertà, del genere e delle disparità nello sviluppo sono di rilevanza geostrategica. La sopravvivenza del pianeta dipende dalla corretta conservazione, manutenzione e distribuzione delle risorse. Povertà, terrorismo, conflitti, guerre e corsa alle armi di distruzione di massa sono tutti legati alle risorse. La corsa alle risorse e alle armi nucleari è la principale fonte di instabilità globale e politica. Le disuguaglianze e la povertà stanno creando nuovi fenomeni migratori e un terreno fertile per lo scoppio di conflitti. Dobbiamo ripensare a una nuova forma di sviluppo, progettando e attuando programmi di sviluppo innovativi basati su valutazioni sensibili alla povertà, sulla gestione sostenibile delle risorse e sulla protezione dell’ambiente e degli ecosistemi.
