Qualquer que seja o papel desempenhado pela comunidade Internacional na resolução de conflitos, a importância dada às questões de género, a participação das mulheres nos processos de consolidação e retorno à paz, está provado que o contributo das mulheres é estratégico para manter, construir e promover a paz mundial. A desigualdade e o desequilíbrio de género que persistem nos processos de recuperação de crises e nas situações pós e pré-conflito são intoleráveis. A violência sexual e baseada no género é particularmente prevalente em situações em que existe uma falta generalizada de respeito pelos direitos humanos. A não discriminação e o tratamento justo e equitativo são princípios básicos nas fases de concepção e implementação do DDR integrado. A concepção e implementação de programas de DDR devem promover a igualdade de género com base em avaliações sensíveis ao género.
