Os inibidores da monoamina oxidase (MAO) desempenham um papel vital no tratamento de várias perturbações neurológicas e psiquiátricas, como a depressão, a doença de Parkinson e a doença de Alzheimer. A identificação de novos inibidores da MAO com elevada especificidade e efeitos secundários reduzidos é um objetivo fundamental na descoberta de medicamentos. As abordagens experimentais tradicionais, embora eficazes, são frequentemente demoradas e exigem muitos recursos.Este livro centra-se na aplicação de técnicas de rastreio in silico, tirando partido de ferramentas computacionais para prever a atividade inibidora da MAO de compostos químicos. Ao combinar docking molecular, rastreio virtual e análise da relação estrutura-atividade (SAR), esta abordagem oferece uma via rápida e económica para identificar candidatos promissores para posterior validação experimental.A integração de metodologias in silico não só aumenta a eficiência da descoberta de medicamentos, como também contribui para uma compreensão mais profunda das interações entre potenciais inibidores e as enzimas MAO. Este trabalho tem como objetivo servir de base para a investigação e desenvolvimento futuros neste domínio, promovendo o conhecimento científico e a inovação terapêutica.
