A violência urbana é um fenômeno que vem se constituindo como um grave problema para a sociedade brasileira e para o mundo. Dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde revelam que entre 2015 e 2016 o Brasil passou a ser a sétima maior taxa de homicídio da região das Américas, com um indicador de 31,3 mortes para cada 100 mil habitantes. Dentro desta conjuntura se fez necessário compreender a violência urbana como um dos propulsores dos homicídios no espaço urbano de Sarandi, priorizando a dimensão socioespacial e se fazendo entender como a criminalidade pode influenciar na vida das pessoas que moram nesse espaço segregado. Este livro traz a discussão da criminalidade, da violência e dos homicídios e tem como objetivo principal analisar a dinâmica da violência criminal no espaço urbano da cidade de Sarandi no Paraná, considerando as taxas de homicídios dolosos de jovens de 15 a 29 anos. Os procedimentos metodológicos contemplam a elaboração do referencial teórico acerca dos conceitos sobre segregação urbana; pobreza; violência urbana; criminalidade; jovens; levantamento de dados junto à Delegacia da Polícia Civil sobre os índices de homicídios de jovens em Sarandi. O principal resultado que a pesquisa apresenta é que os jovens de 15 a 29 anos no município de Sarandi, expostos à violência, estão nos bairros que apresentam falta de estrutura e precariedade dos equipamentos sociais. 10
