Le schermature convenzionali (calcestruzzi) hanno un elevato contenuto di cemento e possono essere parzialmente sostituite da ceneri volanti; per ottenere una schermatura efficace, è possibile utilizzare diversi additivi insieme alle ceneri volanti. È inoltre necessario studiare l’aspetto meccanico dei calcestruzzi, solo così potranno essere considerati affidabili e sostitutivi dei materiali di schermatura tradizionali. Questo studio è un tentativo di cercare calcestruzzi alternativi migliori, sicuri ed ecologici rispetto ai materiali standard disponibili utilizzati per la schermatura dalle radiazioni.
