Schatzwechsel oder T-Bills sind Geldmarktinstrumente, die von der indischen Regierung ausgegeben werden und derzeit in drei Laufzeiten erhältlich sind: 91 Tage, 182 Tage und 364 Tage. Schatzwechsel sind Nullkupon-Wertpapiere und zinslos. Sie werden mit einem Abschlag ausgegeben und bei Fälligkeit zum Nennwert eingelöst. Staatspapiere sind handelbare Instrumente, die von der Zentralregierung oder den Regierungen der Bundesstaaten ausgegeben werden. Sie bestätigen die Schuldverpflichtung der Regierung. Solche Wertpapiere sind kurzfristig (in der Regel als Schatzwechsel bezeichnet, mit ursprünglichen Laufzeiten von weniger als einem Jahr) oder langfristig (in der Regel als Staatsanleihen oder datierte Wertpapiere mit einer ursprünglichen Laufzeit von einem Jahr oder mehr bezeichnet). In Indien gibt die Zentralregierung sowohl Schatzwechsel als auch Anleihen oder datierte Wertpapiere aus, während die Regierungen der Bundesstaaten nur Anleihen oder datierte Wertpapiere ausgeben, die als staatliche Entwicklungsdarlehen (SDLs) bezeichnet werden.
