Die Mungbohne (Vigna radiata L.) ist eine wichtige Hülsenfrucht, die wegen ihres hohen Proteingehalts, ihrer kurzen Wachstumsdauer und ihrer Fähigkeit, die Bodenfruchtbarkeit durch Stickstofffixierung zu verbessern, geschätzt wird. Ihre Produktivität wird jedoch häufig durch den Befall von saugenden Schädlingen beeinträchtigt, die direkte Schäden durch den Verzehr von Pflanzensaft sowie indirekte Schäden durch die Übertragung von Pflanzenkrankheiten verursachen. Zu den wichtigsten saugenden Schädlingen der Mungbohne zählen die Weiße Fliege (Bemisia tabaci), die Zikade (Empoasca kerri), die Blattlaus (Aphis craccivora) und der Thrips (Megalurothrips usitatus).Das Auftreten und die Häufigkeit dieser Schädlinge variieren je nach Wachstumsstadium der Kulturpflanze und den Umweltbedingungen. Im Allgemeinen treten saugende Schädlinge erstmals im vegetativen Stadium auf und erreichen ihren Populationshöhepunkt während der Blüte und der Hülsenbildung. Temperatur, relative Luftfeuchtigkeit und Niederschlag spielen eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Bestimmung ihres saisonalen Auftretens. Die Weiße Fliege ist einer der zerstörerischsten Schädlinge der Mungbohne. Sowohl Larven als auch ausgewachsene Tiere saugen Pflanzensaft aus den Blättern, was zu Vergilbung, Blattrollung und verminderter Pflanzenvitalität führt. Noch wichtiger ist, dass Weiße Fliegen das Mungbohnen-Gelbmosaikvirus (MYMV) übertragen, eine schwerwiegende Krankheit, die zu erheblichen Ertragsverlusten führen kann.
