Roman History Books I-III is a historical book written by the ancient Roman historian Livius, also known as Titus Livy. This book is a compilation of the first three books of Livius’ monumental work, Ab Urbe Condita (From the Founding of the City), which chronicles the history of Rome from its legendary founding in 753 BC to the end of the Second Samnite War in 290 BC.The first book of Roman History covers the period from the founding of Rome to the expulsion of the kings in 509 BC. It includes legendary stories of Romulus and Remus, the founding of the city, and the reigns of the seven kings of Rome. The second book covers the period from the establishment of the Republic in 509 BC to the end of the Gallic invasion in 390 BC. It includes the early struggles of the Republic, the wars with neighboring tribes, and the invasion of Rome by the Gauls. The third book covers the period from the end of the Gallic invasion to the end of the Second Samnite War in 290 BC. It includes the wars with the Samnites, the Latin War, and the Pyrrhic War.Roman History Books I-III is a valuable resource for anyone interested in ancient Roman history. It provides a detailed and comprehensive account of the early history of Rome, including its legends, myths, and historical events. Livius’ writing style is engaging and easy to read, making this book accessible to both scholars and casual readers alike. Overall, Roman History Books I-III is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of Rome and its early development as a world power.Though nobody doubted that a war was impending from the Tarquins, yet it broke out later than was generally expected; however, liberty was well-nigh lost by fraud and treachery, a thing they never apprehended. There were among the Roman youth several young men--and these of no no rank--who, while the regal government lasted, had enjoyed greater license in their pleasures, being the equals in age, boon companions of the young Tarquins, and accustomed to live after the fashion of princes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
