Die Vereinten Nationen haben den Zugang zu Wasser und sanitären Einrichtungen als ein Menschenrecht anerkannt, das für die Gesundheit, die Würde und den Wohlstand eines jeden Menschen von grundlegender Bedeutung ist. Das Recht auf Wasser ist das Recht auf ausreichendes, sicheres, akzeptables, physisch zugängliches und bezahlbares Wasser für den persönlichen und häuslichen Gebrauch. Der Konsum von unsicherem Wasser kann zu verschiedenen durch Wasser übertragenen Krankheiten führen. In Portugal wurden in den letzten Jahren erhebliche Fortschritte in der öffentlichen Wasserversorgung erzielt, und im Jahr 2022 wurde sie als sicheres Wasser eingestuft, da 99 Prozent der von der portugiesischen Gesetzgebung festgelegten Parameterwerte erfüllt wurden. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, eine Zusammenfassung der von der portugiesischen Gesetzgebung und der Weltgesundheitsorganisation festgelegten mikrobiologischen, physikalisch-chemischen und radiologischen Parameter zu erstellen, um die Gesundheitsbehörden bei der Risikobewertung der Qualität von Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch zu unterstützen.
