Embora continuem a ser feitos avanços importantes no desenvolvimento de medidas alternativas de controlo, os inseticidas continuarão a ser uma parte vital dos programas de controlo integrado num futuro previsível. Atualmente, o controlo dos mosquitos é direcionado principalmente contra as larvas e, por vezes, contra os adultos, quando necessário. Isso porque o combate aos adultos é temporário, insatisfatório e poluente para o meio ambiente, enquanto o tratamento das larvas é mais localizado no tempo e no espaço, resultando em consequências menos perigosas. Este livro discute o efeito da concentração subletal de hipoclorito nas larvas de Culex pipiens. O estudo confirmou que o hipoclorito tem um papel importante no controlo das larvas de mosquitos vetores de doenças.
