Este estudo explorou a experiência de transição do ensino básico para o ensino superior de um grupo de estudantes Cheyenne e Arapaho. Também foram examinadas outras características de resiliência, incluindo a persistência na busca de um diploma de bacharelato. Foi utilizada uma abordagem fenomenológica para explorar as experiências vividas por uma amostra intencional de sete membros das tribos Cheyenne e Arapaho, todos estudantes de uma universidade pública regional. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de uma investigação qualitativa baseada em entrevistas aprofundadas. Os participantes atribuíram significado ao que vivenciaram por meio de temas texturais, incluindo um sentimento de pertencimento e laços afetivos. Além disso, os participantes falaram sobre como vivenciaram o fenómeno, resultando em descritores estruturais de determinação, autonomia, autodisciplina e espiritualidade. São apresentadas implicações para o pessoal escolar e programas de preparação de professores, bem como sugestões para pesquisas futuras.
