La Repubblica del Kazakistan è uno dei Paesi più ricchi di riserve mondiali di petrolio, gas, titanio, magnesio, stagno, uranio, oro e altri metalli non ferrosi. A livello globale, la Repubblica del Kazakistan è già il più grande produttore di tungsteno, e le sue riserve si sono classificate al primo posto nel mondo, al secondo posto - per le scorte di minerale di cromo e fosfato, al quarto posto - per il piombo e il molibdeno, all’ottavo posto - per le riserve totali di minerale di ferro (16,6 miliardi di tonnellate) dopo Brasile, Australia, Canada, Stati Uniti, India, Russia e Ucraina.Oggi non è un segreto che l’aumento dell’interesse per la Repubblica del Kazakistan mostri gli Stati Uniti e i Paesi dell’Europa occidentale, così come la Turchia, l’Iran, il Pakistan, il Giappone e la Cina. Ciò è dovuto principalmente all’elevato potenziale della Repubblica nelle materie prime strategiche, in particolare petrolio e gas. Nella Repubblica del Kazakistan sono oggi noti 14 bacini prospettici situati praticamente su tutto il suo territorio, dove sono esplorati solo 160 giacimenti di petrolio e gas e riserve di petrolio recuperabili pari a 2,7 miliardi di tonnellate.
