Il presidente Touadéra approfitta del caos politico-militare per guidare il processo elettorale 2020-2021.Dopo la sua rielezione, vuole modificare la Costituzione del 2016, per sviluppare la Repubblica Centrafricana calpestata dal colonialismo. Questa decisione, respinta dalla Corte, è stata accolta male dal presidente Touadéra che ha deciso di sanzionare alcuni giudici costituzionali e la Corte è diventata un trittico, criticato dalla BRDC, dai leader ribelli e dalla comunità internazionale.Tuttavia, il presidente Touadéra, sostenuto dal Fronte repubblicano, ha fatto una mossa forte e ha sottoposto al referendum costituzionale del 30 luglio 2023 una nuova legge. Questa, molto popolare, è stata votata con un tasso del 95,03%, aprendo la strada al suo propria successione nel 2025. Da quel momento in poi è iniziato uno stallo politico senza fine tra il presidente Touadéra e la BRDC.
