Edward Said marcou uma época em que as opiniões dominantes no Ocidente sobre o Oriente eram tendenciosas. A sua contribuição intelectual continua a ser correta? O século XX trouxe uma enorme curiosidade sobre as religiões orientais. Será que o apelo budista de um caminho interior mais profundo para a iluminação é algo que se pode adaptar à nossa cultura de pensamento livre? O Islão domina os grandes títulos das notícias em todo o lado. Representa o Islão uma ameaça às nossas crenças e modos de vida fundamentais ou é uma outra expressão da diversidade e riqueza das nossas sociedades democráticas e abertas?
