Le sort des réfugiés des guerres de libération de l’Afrique australe a fait la une des journaux internationaux de la fin des années 1970 au début des années 1990. Dans ce contexte, des personnes originaires d’Angola, de Namibie, d’Afrique du Sud et du Zimbabwe ont franchi les frontières internationales pour chercher refuge en dehors de leur pays d’origine. La plupart de ces personnes déplacées se sont installées dans les États de la ligne de front, notamment au Botswana, en Tanzanie et en Zambie. Dukwi, dans le nord-est du Botswana, accueille des réfugiés depuis près de quarante ans. Depuis sa création, le camp de réfugiés de Dukwi reste le seul lieu d’accueil des réfugiés et des demandeurs d’asile au Botswana. Cet ouvrage vise à combler une lacune dans les connaissances sur ce camp important et sur l’impact des camps de réfugiés sur les communautés d’accueil en général.
