Durante o processo, descobriu-se que os elementos do grupo principal obedecem à série 4n, enquanto os metais de transição seguem a série 14n. No entanto, durante a análise subsequente dos aglomerados químicos, descobriu-se que os electrões de valência dos aglomerados também podem obedecer à série 6n para os elementos do grupo principal e à série 16n para os aglomerados de metais de transição. Neste livro, foi dada ênfase a um novo tipo de série, simplesmente descrita como série diagonal de aglomerados.
