Im ersten Teil wird das ARIS-Konzept und die Nutzbarkeit des Ansatzes für die Referenzmodellierung thematisiert. Der Pluralismus von Modellen wird aufgegriffen, und es wird diskutiert, wie Referenzmodelle, die unterschiedliche Zwecke erfüllen sollen, zu erstellen sind. Die Multiperspektivität von Referenzmodellen wird aus Sicht eines Tool-Herstellers erörtert. Der zweite Teil ist der Nutzung von Referenzmodellen gewidmet, worin Referenzmodelle für Anwendungs- und für Organisationszwecke untersucht werden. Es wird aufgezeigt, wie ein Mittelweg zwischen Standard- und Individualsoftware gestaltet werden könnte. Business Objekte als zentraler Betrachtungsgegenstand des SAP Referenzmodells werden vorgestellt und die Nutzung von Referenz-Anwendungssystemmodellen bei der Einführung von Standardsoftware fokussiert.
