Los ritos y juegos festivos atestiguan la importancia de la reciprocidad en la base de la cultura mapuche. El principio de reciprocidad, cualquiera que sea la forma en que se actualice positivo o negativo, permite que la afectividad se relativice en una conciencia común que se presenta como un Tercero entre los hombres. Este Tercero, un espíritu indiviso que surge de cualquier relación de reciprocidad -ya sea la de un cara a cara (konchotun) o colectivo (ngillatun)- se siente como una dinámica espiritual que ordena dentro de la comunidad sus juegos, bailes, banquetes, ofrendas, sacrificios, a la producción de valores éticos universales.
