In diesem Buch werden die Entwicklung und die aktuelle Lage der Rechte Homosexueller in den Niederlanden und im Iran analysiert und verglichen. Die Niederlande und der Iran stellen heute zwei extreme Gegensätze dar. Die Niederlande gelten als Vorreiter der Gleichberechtigung, gleichgeschlechtliche Ehen und Adoption von Kindern durch homosexuelle Paare sind möglich und keine Seltenheit. Im Iran werden homosexuelle Handlungen bei Verhängung der Höchststrafe mit dem Tode geahndet. Historisch gesehen war die Gesetzgebung zur Homosexualität in den Niederlanden, und vor allem in den niederländischen Kolonien, mit der aktuellen Gesetzgebung im Iran durchaus vergleichbar. Eine Antwort darauf, warum Homosexuellen in den untersuchten Regionen so unterschiedlich begegnet wird, findet sich in der großen Diskrepanz der Wahrnehmung von Homosexualität.
