O cancro é uma doença maligna que se caracteriza pela formação rápida e descontrolada de células anormais que se podem juntar para formar um tumor ou proliferar por todo o corpo. A seguir às doenças cardíacas, o cancro é uma das principais causas de morte da humanidade. Este estudo tem como objetivo um rastreio fitoquímico preliminar e uma avaliação anticancerígena de Adiantum venustum Don contra o carcinoma de ascite de Ehrlich em modelo animal. Os resultados indicam que o extrato etanólico de A. venustum Don possui uma atividade anticancerígena significativa e também reduz o nível elevado de peroxidação lipídica devido à presença de terpenóides e flavonóides. Assim, o extrato etanólico de A. venustum Don poderia ter uma vasta aplicação terapêutica contra o cancro.
