The District of Raichur was a part of the Hyderabad State till the re-organisation of State on 1st November 1956. Raichur district is situated in the eastern part of Karnataka. Spread across 5 taluks. In Karnataka 18 districts are droughts prone. Bagalkot, Bidar, Bijapur, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir are the most drought prone districts of North Karnataka. Bangalore Rural, Belgaum, Bidar, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Gadag, Hassan, Haveri, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Raichur, Ramanagara, and Tumkur at all these districts we could not able to find the communicated research articles on butterflies till date. Because of the above fact we opt to work at Raichur, Karnataka, and we documented a total of 65 butterfly species in the selected research sites of the Raichur. The result indicates a very species diversity of Raichur with respect to butterflies. The result indicates that the presence of such diversity is because of the host plants on which the butterfly are dependent on for their food, reproduction, shelter and finally complete their life cycle.
