La combinazione di un sistema di raffreddamento evaporativo diretto e di un sistema di raffreddamento evaporativo indiretto è chiamata raffreddamento evaporativo indiretto-diretto a due stadi. Nel raffreddatore ad aria a due stadi la temperatura effettiva diminuisce, il COP aumenta fino a 13, un valore significativamente più alto rispetto al normale raffreddatore e al condizionatore d’aria convenzionale, l’effetto di refrigerazione aumenta, il tempo di ricarica dell’acqua di makeup aumenta per la stessa configurazione, l’aumento dell’umidità specifica è significativamente inferiore a quello del sistema di raffreddamento diretto. Il refrigeratore d’aria a due stadi è un sistema di raffreddamento efficace dal punto di vista energetico, ecologico ed economico e, con qualche ulteriore modifica, può essere utilizzato in sostituzione del condizionatore d’aria.
