Critical Issues in Anglophone Cameroonian Poetry riunisce otto importanti poeti anglofoni camerunesi che possono essere classificati in tre categorie: 'gridatori', ’dicitori’ e ’saggi’. Nella prima categoria, quella dei banditori, troviamo John Ngong Kum, Bate Besong, Gahlia Gwangwa’a, Fru Doh e Mathew Takwi; nella seconda, quella dei dicitori, Bongasu-Tanla-Kishani e Nol Alembong, e nella terza, quella dei saggi, Bernard Fonlon. I gridatori, come dice la loro tassonomia, gridano il loro sdegno. Sono le voci sconsolate che riecheggiano il dolore collettivo, che registrano la sensazione cruda del torto. La loro poesia ribolle della furia del tradimento della fiducia degli indigeni. È una poesia di accusa e di rifiuto. I dicitori non sono meno attenti al torto, ma tendono ad avere un temperamento più pacato. Dicono piuttosto che gridare, e forse per questo motivo il loro messaggio è più facile da recepire. Quanto ai saggi, sono la spina dorsale della sopravvivenza collettiva. Vedono avanti, guidati da ciò che sanno del passato, e forniscono una direzione. Infine, la tesi finale di questo libro è che la politicizzazione della poesia camerunese anglofona non ha portato a un declino della sua arte.
