La France est l’un des pays pionniers en matière de politiques de covoiturage en Europe. Des voies réservées aux véhicules à haut taux d’occupation ont été mises en place sur les itinéraires menant à diverses zones métropolitaines, telles que Lille, Rennes, Strasbourg et Grenoble, autorisant uniquement les voitures transportant deux passagers ou plus à circuler. Bien qu’il y ait eu de nombreuses recherches sur les déterminants du comportement de covoiturage à partir de facteurs psychologiques et socio-économiques, certains domaines restent inexplorés, en particulier en ce qui concerne le covoiturage de courte distance, moins de 80 km, en France. Cette recherche vise à établir l’impact du prix des carburants et des précipitations, en interaction avec la présence de voies réservées aux véhicules à haut taux d’occupation, sur le nombre de trajets de covoiturage en se concentrant sur les groupes de villes situés sur les tronçons routiers à 50 km de Rennes, Grenoble et Lille. Les résultats de cette recherche révèlent les impacts des facteurs naturels, économiques et infrastructurels sur l’adoption du covoiturage dans le contexte contemporain de l’UE, ce qui pourrait servir d’orientation politique à l’avenir.
