Amartya Sen sostiene nel suo libro 'The Idea of Justice' (2009) che la giustizia dovrebbe essere intesa come una questione di grado, da valutare lungo un continuum. Piuttosto che cercare principi che definiscano la società perfettamente giusta, si dovrebbero confrontare situazioni ingiuste e scegliere quella meno ingiusta. La sua teoria è un approccio pratico. Questo libro collega la teoria della giustizia di Sen e il commercio equo e solidale. Si occupa della questione di quanto il commercio equo e solidale contribuisca a una maggiore giustizia (globale).
