O fenómeno da fome no mundo é consequência da desorganização da colectividade mundial, da ausência de uma política planetária, da inexistência de estruturas aptas para harmonizar os interesses vitais do homem e do desconhecimento das regras dietéticas naturais. A fome está no centro das preocupações mundiais devido à sua intensidade, ao grande número de pessoas atingidas e às crises sociais que ela pode provocar; assim devemos procurar resolver esta situação no quadro económico e político, hoje internacional. Apesar de o número de Africanos desnutridos ter estado a crescer durante décadas e agora situar-se em cerca de 200 milhões, emergiu um novo compromisso para a mudança tanto no seio dos líderes africanos como da comunidade internacional (Directiva da Conferencia Africana 2020). Em Moçambique, a preocupação com a garantia da segurança alimentar e nutricional não constitui excepção ao anteriormente referido e revela-se uma constante. Deste modo, é necessário o desenvolvimento de políticas e estratégias que possam ser efectivas e sustentáveis para a garantia da segurança alimentar e nutricional no país.
