Wirus zapalenia wątroby typu „C' może powodować zarówno ostre, jak i przewlekłe infekcje. Ostry proces jest samoograniczający się, rzadko powoduje niewydolność wątroby i prowadzi do przewlekłej infekcji. Wirusowe zapalenie wątroby typu C przebiega bezobjawowo we wczesnych stadiach choroby, ponieważ pacjenci nie są świadomi, że są zakażeni, a pacjenci zwykle zgłaszają się późno, a następnie nie kwalifikują się do leczenia przeciwwirusowego. Niniejsze badanie wykazało, że większość pacjentów z HCV w północnych Indiach późno zgłasza się na terapię przeciwwirusową. Powodem jest to, że jest ona bardzo kosztowna, a pacjentów nie stać na terapię przeciwwirusową. Dlatego HCV jest zwykle bezobjawowy w stadium uleczalnym, dlatego należy zadbać o odpowiednią świadomość na temat choroby i jej zapobiegania, aby poprawić jakość życia pacjentów.
