Told through poetry alone, South Carolina Quarrels is the first book in the Prophetic Poems series, which revolves around the life of the author from the emotional perspective of a poet’s mind. Forced into the military and trained to be a sailor, the poems start when the author gets stationed in South Carolina in one of the most rigorous academic programs in the country, where stress and suicide rates are high, and his chances of heartbreak are even higher. Struggling to overcome his lack of social skills from a strict and controlled parenthood lacking family and help, the author experiences the world brutally. Along the way, he makes friends who become brothers, lovers who become exes, and rivals who become enemies. Combating countless heartbreaks, emotional battles, and the trials of becoming an adult, the author grows every step of the way to try and become the man he hopes to be. While all of the poems in the book are not directly recollections of memories, all are inspired from the people and events that played a significant role during his life from 2020 through 2022.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular.
