Trotz des prozessorientierten Ansatzes konzentriert sich Lean Production in erster Linie auf die Verringerung des Risikos der Suboptimierung und den Produktionsanteil des Lebenszyklus. Das schwierigere Problem bei der Vermeidung von Verschwendung ist die mangelnde vertikale Integration zwischen den organisatorischen Daten zu Umweltverschwendung und den Prozessen, die diese Verschwendung verursacht haben. Lean in Verbindung mit dem Green-Konzept verbessert den Prozessablauf und die Mitarbeitermoral und senkt zudem das Risiko der Nichteinhaltung gesetzlicher Vorschriften. Darüber hinaus können durch Lean-Prinzipien, die Unsicherheiten in Prozessen beseitigen und Verschwendung reduzieren, eine verbesserte Produktqualität und die damit verbundenen wirtschaftlichen Vorteile in nachhaltigen Produktionssystemen erzielt werden. Die integrierten Produktentwicklungs-/Fertigungsprozesse sowie die Interoperabilität von Informationssystemen können den Geschäftswert in Produktionssystemen steigern.
