Hydro-entangling, spun lacing, hydraulic entanglement i water jet needling to synonimiczne terminy opisujące proces łączenia włókien (lub filamentów) w wstędze za pomocą strumieni wody o dużej prędkości. Najstarszą techniką konsolidacji włókien w wstędze jest wiązanie mechaniczne, które splata włókna w celu nadania wstędze wytrzymałości. Spun-lacing wykorzystuje strumienie wody o dużej prędkości do uderzania w wstęgę, dzięki czemu włókna zawiązują się wokół siebie. Interakcja wody pod napięciem z włóknami w wstędze i powierzchnią nośną zwiększa splątanie włókien i indukuje przemieszczanie i przegrupowanie segmentów włókien w wstędze. Oprócz mechanicznego wiązania, wzory strukturalne, otwory i złożone efekty trójwymiarowe są wytwarzane, jeśli jest to wymagane, poprzez wybór odpowiednich powierzchni nośnych. Hydrosplątanie zapewnia również wygodną metodę mechanicznego łączenia dwóch lub więcej wstęg w celu wytworzenia wielowarstwowych tkanin.
