Na SSHR, foi efectuado um estudo para determinar a prevalência de G. explantum. Foram examinados trezentos fígados de búfalos e sessenta e três fígados foram infectados por G. explanatum. A prevalência de G. explanatum foi de 21,24%. Este resultado mostrou uma gama significativa de danos nos búfalos provocados por este parasita, o que, por sua vez, causa grandes perdas económicas na indústria dos lacticínios. Por isso, é necessário tomar medidas imediatas para reduzir a taxa de infeção.
