W badaniu oceniono poziom zaangażowania społeczności w program rozszerzenia rolnictwa o nazwie National Agriculture and Livestock Extension Programme (NALEP) w Chuka Division, Meru South District, Eastern Province Kenya. Badanie koncentrowało się na wiedzy społeczności na temat programu, ich udziale w programie i ocenie programu, w tym ich sugestiach dotyczących ulepszenia programu. Kwestionariusze zostały rozdane dwudziestu respondentom w lokalizacji Gitareni i dwudziestu respondentom w lokalizacji Mugwe. Kwestionariusz składał się z dwudziestu dwóch pytań zamkniętych i dwóch pytań otwartych. Ponadto przeprowadzono trzy grupy fokusowe, dwie w Gitareni i jedną w Mugwe. Badanie wykazało, że obie społeczności były zaangażowane w program, a tylko niewielka część uczestników miała ograniczone zaangażowanie. Okazało się również, że zaangażowanie dotyczyło wszystkich zawodów, wieku i płci. Głównym powodem uczestnictwa w programie była chęć ulepszenia swoich gospodarstw. Badanie wykazało również, że struktury organizacyjne w społeczności miały wpływ na uczestnictwo. Nie było znaczących różnic w poziomie zaangażowania obu społeczności.
