Ogólnym celem tej książki było zidentyfikowanie różnic w ruchach niemowląt urodzonych o czasie i przedwcześnie jako pierwszy krok w kierunku określenia stopnia uszkodzenia neurologicznego i późniejszego powrotu do zdrowia. Dwoje dzieci urodzonych o czasie i dwoje wcześniaków filmowano przez 210 minut. Częstotliwość i jakość ruchów były analizowane podczas różnych okresów stresu fizjologicznego na oddziale intensywnej terapii noworodkowej przy użyciu analizy ruchowej Laban (LBA). Odnotowano wszelkie zmiany w wzorcach ruchowych podczas stresu fizjologicznego. Różnice w ruchach obserwowane u dzieci urodzonych o czasie i wcześniaków mogą być wykorzystane do identyfikacji typowych i nietypowych wzorców ruchowych, pomagając we wczesnym rozpoznaniu zaburzeń ruchowych.
