Pracownicy służby zdrowia są coraz częściej doceniani i poświęca się im coraz więcej uwagi ze względu na ich pozytywny wpływ na wypełnienie luki kadrowej w niedostatecznie rozwiniętych społecznościach. Technologia cyfrowa jest również szeroko stosowana w dziedzinie zdrowia w realizacji działań. Jednak CHW stoi przed kilkoma wyzwaniami, w tym dostępem do komputerów i technologii telefonii komórkowej oraz możliwością skutecznego korzystania z tych narzędzi, aby służyć większej populacji wysokiej jakości usługami zdrowotnymi dla społeczności. Niniejsza praca koncentruje się na przyczynach niskiego wykorzystania komputerów i technologii telefonii komórkowej przez CHW we wdrażaniu wspólnotowych działań zdrowotnych. W podejściu ilościowym ujawniono, że CHW mają dostęp tylko do technologii telefonii komórkowej z bardzo niewielkim przeszkoleniem w zakresie jej właściwego użytkowania. Prawie wszyscy napotkani CHW mieli telefon komórkowy, ale nie byli w stanie w pełni wykorzystać go do ułatwienia swojej pracy w społeczności. Zauważono pozytywny związek między dostępem do technologii telefonii komórkowej a jej wykorzystaniem w realizacji działań społecznych pracowników służby zdrowia. Społeczni pracownicy służby zdrowia zdecydowanie sugerują, że ośrodki zdrowia powinny zapewnić im dostęp do komputerów w ich placówkach.
