In dieser Studie wird theoretisch und empirisch der Frage nachgegangen, wie sich politische Sozialisationsprozesse im Leben von Großeltern, Eltern und Kindern aus Ostdeutschland vollzogen haben und welche Bedeutung dabei dem biographischen Umgang mit dem Verlauf der Geschichte zukommt. Theoretisch werden die Ansätze der politischen Sozialisationsforschung, des symbolischen Interaktionismus und der Generationen- und Familienforschung systematisch miteinander verknüpft. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird der politische Sozialisationsprozeß in den Biographieverläufen von drei Generationen aus sechs Familien untersucht. Im Zentrum stehen dabei Fragen nach dem Einfluß historischer Ereignisse auf die politischen Orientierungen der Familienmitglieder, den Auswirkungen von Politik auf das familiale Zusammenleben und inwiefern politische Einstellungen innerhalb der Familie weitergegeben werden.
