La Legge n. 8159 dell’8 gennaio 1991 prevede la politica nazionale degli archivi pubblici e privati e altre disposizioni. La legislazione archivistica è l’insieme delle norme giuridiche relative agli archivi e ai professionisti del settore. Lo stimolo alla gestione dei documenti archivistici pubblici mira a: l’organizzazione degli archivi correnti, intermedi e permanenti; la valutazione e la selezione dei documenti, in base ai valori che presentano; la conservazione dei documenti che costituiscono il patrimonio archivistico pubblico; la garanzia di accesso alle informazioni contenute nei documenti; l’adeguata formazione delle risorse umane che esercitano le attività archivistiche.
