Nesta pesquisa, analiso as representações políticas sobre o trabalho no ensino primário de Minas Gerais do período de 1930 a 1954. Neste momento, um dos conceitos importantes para a reflexão destas representações ancora-se na perspectiva da intolerância, dos discursos que excluem o sujeito não-trabalhador da sociedade. As fontes utilizadas são os principais materiais didáticos que circulavam no ensino primário, como os livros de leitura, cartilhas, livros de metodologia do ensino primário e jornais escolares, além de fontes não escolares, como os suplementos infantis da imprensa mineira durante os anos de 1930-1954. Dentre os resultados obtidos, destaco a ênfase da construção de uma identidade nacional coletiva com destaque à criança “a ser preparada para o trabalho”, um investimento no trabalho industrial, principalmente nas escolas urbanas, à importância que os suplementos infantis dos jornais analisados têm para a educação da criança e aos preceitos a serem ensinados socialmente. Estes últimos compõem uma educação que auxilia a formal dada pela escola. 10
