Zespół bólu neuropatycznego wywiera znacząco szkodliwy i niepokojący wpływ na jakość życia dotkniętych nim osób. Aby ustalić skuteczną metodę leczenia tej dolegliwości, kompleksowe badania naukowe wykazały, że receptor sigma 1 stanowi niezwykły cel dla środków terapeutycznych. Analizy 3D-QSAR zostały przeprowadzone z wykorzystaniem metodologii Comparative Molecular Similarity Index Analysis (CoMSIA). Wyniki tych badań potwierdziły solidność struktury CoMSIA w precyzyjnym prognozowaniu bioaktywności różnorodnych związków. W sumie zsyntetyzowano szesnaście nowych związków, które wykazały zwiększoną skuteczność w zwalczaniu bólu neuropatycznego. W połączeniu z kompleksową analizą 3D-QSAR, nowo zsyntetyzowane związki poddano dokładnej ocenie mającej na celu wyjaśnienie ich profili farmakokinetycznych i toksykologicznych, uzyskując w ten sposób krytyczny wgląd w przyszłe badania in vitro.
