Proces zajmowania przestrzeni przybrzeżnych w Sergipe, podobnie jak w Brazylii, nasilił się w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach w wyniku wdrożenia polityki publicznej ukierunkowanej na mieszkalnictwo i turystykę, skonsolidowanej z budową infrastruktury odpowiedzialnej za generowanie kontrastów społecznych i głębokiego wpływu na środowisko. Równina przybrzeżna Aracaju charakteryzuje się obszarami środowiskowymi, które są bardzo wrażliwe na użytkowanie i zajmowanie, głównie dlatego, że jest to niedawne środowisko naturalne, które stale się zmienia; z tego powodu są to nieskonsolidowane obszary środowiskowe, w szczególności pola wydmowe, pasma przybrzeżne, namorzyny, laguny oraz tarasy rzeczne i morskie.
