Piratas de América (en holandés De Americaensche Zee-Roovers), fue publicada en Ámsterdam por Jan ten Hoorn en 1678 y sólo tres años después apareció la versión española; constituye una de las obras que más fuentes documentales han aportado al estudio de la piratería en el siglo XVII, porque está basada en las experiencias verídicas del autor Alexander Oliver Exquemelin (Honfleur, Francia, 1645 - Ámsterdam, Holanda, 1707), conocido como el cirujano de los piratas.
