Zakłada się, że starożytna koncepcja tortur i cierpień w ogniu piekielnym przez wieczność przynosi żyjącym dotkliwy ból. Niniejsze studium rzuca światło na przerażający mit piekła. Koncepcja istnienia piekła i jego okropności jest szczegółowo omawiana w wybranych dziełach Strindberga i O’Neilla w świetle nowych ram, tj. teorii bytu Sartre’a, w szczególności teorii innych. W pracy omówiono, w jaki sposób Sartre’owskie ramy „Innych' sprawiają, że dzieła obu autorów są bardziej zbliżone do koncepcji piekła w towarzystwie innych ludzi niż tradycyjnych rozgrzanych do czerwoności pogrzebaczy. Praca wprowadza i definiuje pojęcie piekła, uzasadniając je odpowiednim przeglądem literatury. Praca, w podzielonych częściach, omawia różne anioły z określonych dzieł dwóch wybitnych autorów Strindberga i O’Neilla.
