A Perturbação de Hiperatividade e Défice de Atenção (PHDA) é um padrão persistente e contínuo de desatenção e/ou hiperatividade e impulsividade, que impede as actividades diárias ou o desenvolvimento típico, causando dificuldades em manter a atenção, a função executiva e a memória de trabalho. Devido ao seu impacto tanto nas crianças como nos adultos, é atualmente um tema de grande interesse e é objeto de muitos estudos em todo o mundo. Esta investigação aborda aspectos importantes relacionados com a etiopatogénese da síndrome e com os diferentes tratamentos utilizados para a atenuar; fornece também informações sobre as morbilidades associadas e as abordagens conceptuais que são evidentes nos sistemas de classificação internacionais. O desenho da investigação foi exploratório, retrospetivo e descritivo. Foram analisados os processos de 2780 alunos, tendo sido entrevistados apenas 7 professores das oito escolas seleccionadas. Aos professores foi aplicado o questionário de Conners.
