En la última década y coincidiendo con el desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación, la ciudadanía ha asistido a una explosión de medios de comunicación que, sin embargo, no ha reforzado su derecho a la información. Más propuestas, especialmente digitales, no han supuesto más pluralidad debido a la escandalosa concentración de medios y la globalización de una información tratada como pura mercancía. Esta continua evolución ha llegado a los periodistas en un momento profesional y laboral muy delicado en el que, víctimas de una feroz crisis económica, han tenido que decidir forzosamente entre plegarse a las condiciones impuestas por sus medios o perder su empleo.
