I governi di tutto il mondo hanno riconosciuto l’impatto delle micro e piccole imprese (PMI) sulla creazione di posti di lavoro, sul miglioramento del tenore di vita delle persone e quindi sull’economia in generale. Tuttavia, nonostante gli sforzi del governo in Somaliland per promuovere l’attività delle PMI, sembrano essere stati compiuti meno progressi. Questo studio ha analizzato i fattori che influenzano la performance delle piccole e micro imprese (PMI) nella città di Hargeisa, Somaliland. Un’indagine descrittiva con l’uso di questionari, interviste e programmi di osservazione è stata utilizzata per raccogliere dati da un campione di 152 micro e piccole imprese scelte tra una popolazione di 1500 persone che operano in un raggio di 400 metri dalla città di Hargeisa. Lo studio ha stabilito che l’accesso ai finanziamenti, le politiche e i regolamenti governativi e la mancanza di adeguate competenze di marketing per gestire perfettamente l’attività influiscono sulla performance delle PMI.
