Il matrimonio infantile è una questione prioritaria a livello mondiale, poiché porre fine al matrimonio infantile entro il 2023 è un obiettivo inserito negli Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile (SDG). La pratica del matrimonio infantile è diffusa in tutto il mondo. In Bangladesh, il 38% delle ragazze adolescenti si sposa prima dei 15 anni e il 51% delle giovani donne si sposa prima dei 18 anni. Poiché le ricerche su questo tema sono molto scarse, questo studio si propone di spiegare la percezione delle ragazze della scuola secondaria sul matrimonio infantile e di fornire raccomandazioni basate sulla pratica per rafforzare la comunità, in particolare le ragazze, per prevenirlo. Secondo la legge del Bangladesh, l’età minima del matrimonio per le ragazze è di 18 anni e per i ragazzi è di 21 anni. Qualsiasi matrimonio prima di queste età può essere considerato un matrimonio infantile. In pratica, il matrimonio infantile si sta verificando in Bangladesh, soprattutto nelle baraccopoli urbane e nelle aree rurali. Gli studi dimostrano che la povertà e l’ignoranza dei genitori/tutori sulle conseguenze del matrimonio infantile, il minore accesso ai servizi di salute sessuale e riproduttiva e le norme sociali prevalenti sul matrimonio sono le ragioni principali del matrimonio infantile.
