Peck High School—Golden Years Remembered A documented history of a school established to teach African- American students in Fernandina Beach, Florida starting in 1884 through 1929 in an era of segregation.  Named after William Henderson Peck, one of the early principals and champions of African-American education in Fernandina Beach.  Originally from Washington, D.C.,  he traveled to Fernandina specifically to educate students. W.H. Peck is recognized as among the Great Floridians of the state.The author, a graduate of Peck High School during the years of segregation, captures the rich legacy of the American story that unfolded during the period.  The book is a testament to the dedication and commitment of many people working to build a strong educational organization to transform the lives of black children.  Set in the context of  local, national and world events, with alumni and staff names, readers will make a connection to those who graduated from what was known as Colored school Number 1, Colored School Number 2 and Peck High School. 3
