Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar até que ponto a comunidade local está envolvida na conservação e gestão do Parque Nacional do Lago Mburo (LMNP). Os objectivos específicos do estudo incluíam: descobrir as formas como a comunidade local está envolvida na conservação e gestão dos parques nacionais, descobrir os benefícios do PNLM para a comunidade local e avaliar se o sistema de gestão integra a comunidade local na gestão dos parques nacionais. Os participantes incluíram líderes da comunidade local, membros da comunidade local e funcionários do Parque Nacional do Lago Mburo. A população da comunidade local foi utilizada devido às suas experiências de vida e conhecimentos da zona, enquanto os funcionários do Parque Nacional do Lago Mburo foram utilizados devido aos seus conhecimentos especializados em matéria de gestão e políticas. O estudo foi efectuado com recurso a calendários de entrevistas cuidadosamente preparados e pré-testados e posteriormente utilizados para recolher informações junto das comunidades locais. Foram também utilizados questionários estruturados para obter informações dos funcionários do Parque Nacional do Lago Mburo, porque esta categoria parecia ser alfabetizada e capaz de ler e escrever.
