Le Parti révolutionnaire du peuple éthiopien (PRPE) est un élément essentiel de l’histoire de la révolution éthiopienne. Jusqu’à sa désintégration en 1991, le PRPE a activement mené une résistance armée révolutionnaire dans les régions du nord-ouest de l’Éthiopie. L’objectif de cette étude est de reconstituer l’histoire de cette résistance armée du PRPE dans le Mätäkal (c.1983-1991). L’étude couvre la période où le PRPE s’est presque remis de son éclatement et s’est réinstallé dans les basses terres de Quara, jusqu’à l’anéantissement final du PRPE par les forces de l’EPRDF en 1991. L’origine et la genèse du parti, l’une des premières organisations politiques d’Éthiopie, sont également mises en évidence. Dès le début de la révolution éthiopienne, il s’est engagé dans des efforts considérables pour évincer le régime militaire des Därge. Cette étude se concentre sur le processus d’éclatement du PRPE et sur sa renaissance à Quara, son fonctionnement à grande échelle à Mätäkäl, ses efforts, ses engagements et l’ensemble de ses activités. L’étude tente de donner un aperçu de la sécurité, de l’administration, des aspects sociaux et économiques de la région en relation avec le PRPE et le Därge.
