Thomas Neunert gewährt in zwei zeitgeschichtlichen Fallstudien detailliert Einblick in die Organisationsstrukturen und Handlungskontexte verschiedener Berufs- und Dienstgruppen in öffentlichen, freigemeinnützigen Krankenhäusern unter konfessioneller Trägerschaft - das eine ein Ordenskrankenhaus, das andere eine Einrichtung einer Diakonissenanstalt.Ein besonderes Augenmerk richtet Neunert auf die sozialen Entwicklungen und ihre internen und externen Einflussfaktoren. Dabei beleuchtet er das Alltagshandeln, die Leitbilder und Machtbedingungen im Krankenhausalltag. Neunert untersucht einerseits die Meinungsbilder von Mitarbeitenden der römisch-katholischen und evangelisch-lutherischen Schwesternschaften, ihren zivilen Kolleginnen und Kollegen sowie von Führungskräften aus den verschiedenen Epochen zwischen 1945 und 2000, thematisiert andererseits aber auch Veränderungstendenzen, Diskussionen und Konflikte im Zusammenhang mit der jeweiligen Tätigkeit, dem Arbeitsumfeld und der persönlichen Religiosität.
